Gabryl “The Dent” Dabbert

Gabryl "The Dent" Dabbert is a powerful NPC from Bryn and a high ranking low kirk of the Matriarch. As an NPC, he shows some vampiric, sorcerer, and warlock traits.

Appearance

Gabryl Dabbert is a half-elf who has the looks of a very dapper human in his 50s. The impacts of his Sanguine Vampiris are immediately obvious. His frame is incredibly thin and gaunt. His skin is sallow and every inch below his neck is covered with the dense tattoos left by the Matriarch's blood magic. He has bright green eyes that seem to be constantly tracking everything in sight. The Dent is almost always dressed impeccably. Though his shirt cuffs are magically imbued and often doused in cologne, he carries the unmistakable stench of the undead…and something else that is hard to place….

Personality

Gabryl is usually quiet and polite when not on a mission. He is, however, prone to violent outbursts and is incredibly arrogant. The Dent is also cruel. He enjoys inflicting pain on others and nothing is more enjoyable than filling someone with an absolute sense of dread. The Dent truly enjoys stalking his targets. He is known to reveal himself frequently with his targets so that he can taunt and toy with them. He also loves to break someone emotionally with vises, such as leveraging blackmail. His unfortunate targets say they don't know what to fear more when they hear a violin playing in a dark alley - his dagger or his next demand.

BIOGRAPHY

Background

The Matriarch, Ceslida Galaadon, and Gabryl Dabbert are very close, with their histories hopelessly intertwined. Gabryl is the Matriarch’s half-brother, his father being a human. His father and him were driven far from the Galaadon Empire and all traces of him hidden. It was Ceslida who sought him out after receiving a strange dream. Together, they joined the ranks of the Galaadon Empire Army on the old continent about 1,800 years ago. They fought valiantly and helped the Galaadon Empire hold agains the Murk and warring Araphelons. 1,300 years ago, created the now powerful Ahk’Dharasha. He was also the first blessed by the Matriarch’s Blood Magic. Though the experiment worked, Gabryl was left plagued by Sanguine Vampiris. This curse, however, made the combat skilled Gabyrl even more deadly as well as a capable assassin and spy.

From a mechanical standpoint, Gabryl is a high tier rank 4 officer within the Church Faction (Ahk'Dharasha/Luminous Cloud). The half-elf is one of the highest ranking non-pureblood elves on the island. He currently serves as the second highest ranking officer among the Low-Kirks of the Ahk’Dharasha. These executioners and assassins are respected through dread and not reverence. Gabryl is the most feared and despised within the Low-Kirks. The half-elf is the boogey man known by all and used to scare disobedient children. He is known to be ruthless as well as a top-notch blackmailer, in many thanks to his vampiric abilities. Seeing him in the flesh means either he needs something important, or you’ve made a terrible mistake.

In recent years, the Dent's most prominent missions and targets have been focused on suppressing rebellious and other threats to the Matriarch. He is credited for breaking the rebellion in Bam through what is called the "Dark Month." The assassin managed to execute over 50 top officers of the rebellion when the City was covered by a magical darkness for a month. He also recently "judged" a dozen high ranking Èbed officers who were accused of attempting to steal a great artifact from the Matriarch. His duties have turned dramatically towards intelligence in the recent months. Gabryl has been spending more time with the Matriarch, even for him.

Murkhollow Campaign

Gabryl is currently stalking Salvos and Ayo’s Band of the Murkhollow campaign. The Matriarch became suspicious of Governor Fenton of the Old World Trading Company. She believed strongly that the traitorous Èbeds were tied to him and that some other greater plan is afoot. The Dent discovered that the Governor was in fact hiring adventurers to secretly scout forbidden areas and steal items of significance from Ahk'Dharasha. Salvos is several of such groups that were hired and he has been stalking.

Gabryl revealed himself to Salvos near the hidden entrance to the Void Cult. He intended at the time only to tease the party, but the group attacked him. He playfully fought the party and nearly killed several members before taking enough damage to force himself into his mist form. He laughed as he floated away and warned the party he'd be back for more fun soon. After this first encounter, the party found and repaired his broken goggles. He later stalked Salvos on their return from the Forest Dolls. His playfulness cost him an opportunity to retrieve the pallid mask that Salvos had found in the cursed forest. He vows to extract his vengenance.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Matriarch

Gabryl Dabbert is the half-elf bastard, half-brother of the Matriarch. His mother was the last Empress of the Galaadon Empire of Carcosa and his father was a simple human blacksmith. Despite his unsavory heritage and his half-elf blood, the Matriarch and him arevery close. Gabryl has nearly sacrificed himself several times for her wellbeing - before and after his curse. The Matriarch also openly defends and promotes her half-elf brother, despite the criticism and the threat of her religious legitimacy. This dynamic of being the only stain on the Matriarch’s reputation, his propensity to “hammer” out problems for her, and Mace of Terror, are how he became known as "the Dent."

CHARACTER INFORMATION

Gabryl seems to show characteristics of a vampire, sorcerer class, and warlock class.

Abilities

Innate Flying- The Dent can fly twice as fast as the quick half-elf can run.

Pact of the Chain- It seems that the warlock's Pact Boon may be Pact of the Chain. His familiar was seen by Aspen and T'Darrell in the usually forbidden imp form. His familiar was also seen casting spells. Other boon related abilities and eldritch invocations are currently unknown and undiscovered by the PC parties.

Devil's Sight- An eldritch invocation that grants Gabryl the ability to see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet. This is superior to darkvision in several ways. First, darkvison can only see as if it is dim light. This vision is lightly obscured, limiting vision of details and color. Secondly, his sight seems to be much further than the typical person with darkvision. Lastly, darkvision cannot see through magical darkness unless the spell states otherwise. Revealed by a 20 history check by Xavenas.

Agonizing Blast- An eldritch invocation. When Gabryl casts Eldritch Blast, he adds his Charisma modifier to the damage it deals on a hit.

Grasp of Hadar– An eldritch invocation. Once on each of the turns when Gabryl hits a creature with Eldritch Blast, Gabryl can move that creature in a straight line 10 feet closer to himself. Revealed by a 20 history check by Xavenas.

Eldritch Spear– An eldritch invocation. When Gabryl casts Eldritch Blast, its range is 300 feet. Revealed by a 20 history check by Xavenas.

Charm– The vampire targets one humanoid it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see the vampire, the target must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or be charmed by the vampire. The charmed target regards the vampire as a trusted friend to be heeded and protected. Although the target isn’t under the vampire’s control, it takes the vampire’s requests or actions in the most favorable way it can, and it is a willing target for the vampire’s bite attack. (Note: not all of this skill was revealed, such as how to remove the effect of this charm)

Spider Climb -The vampire can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Misty Escape -When it drops to 0 hit points outside its resting place, the vampire transforms into a cloud of mist (as in the Shapechanger trait) instead of falling unconscious, provided that it isn’t in sunlight or running water. If it can’t transform, it is destroyed. (NOTE: Not everything about this ability has been revealed yet)

Regeneration- The vampire regains 20 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point. A vampire cannot regenerate itself if its coffin is destroyed.

True Seeing - The Dent seems to be able to cast the 6th level spell, True Seeing

Darkness - The Dent seems to be able to cast the level 2 spell, Darkness

Animal Companionship - The vampire is able to befriend bats and wolves

Enhanced Find Familiar - The Dent seems to be a warlock of unique might. Members from Salvos saw that his familiar was capable of complex tasks. He also seems to be able to maintain two familiars at once and might be able to teleport between their locations.

Spells

Misty Step– As a bonus action, Gabryl briefly surrounds himself with silvery mist, allowing him to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that he can see.

Eldritch Blast- A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. The Dent makes a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage. The Dent can shoot up to 3 beams per attack action or a single beam per legendary action.

Darkness - Magical darkness spreads from a point the Dent chooses and fill’s a 15-foot-radius. A creature with darkvision can’t see through this darkness and nonmagical light can’t illumniate it.

True Seeing - The dent gives a willing creature it touches the ability to see things as they actually are. For the duration, the creature has truesight, notices secret doors hidden by magic, and can see into the Ethereal Plane, all out to a range of 120 feet.
Enhanced Find Familiar - The Dent seems to be a warlock of unique might. Members from Salvos saw that his familiar was capable of complex tasks. He also seems to be able to maintain two familiars at once and might be able to teleport between their locations. This spell also seems to have the usual benefits of Find Familiar.

Disintegrate - The Dent showed at Gideon’s Pit that he can cast disintegrate. It is uncertain if he cast this himself or from an item.

Notable Items

Bags of Holding - While many officers of the Church have a bag of holding, the Dent is notable for having many bags of holding. His also seem to glow of some golden magical enchantment.

The Dent's coffin is known to be responsible to his regenerative abilities. It may carry more advantages and weaknesses for the vampire.

Efficient Quiver - The Dent carries the standard Efficient Quiver given to all officers of the Church.

Javelins of Judgment - The Dent was gifted dozens of javelins from the Matriarch herself. She blessed these over a 24 hour long ritual performed underneath the high temple, Cáma. Ceslida Galaadon claims the Javelins were touched by the blood of the Greater Good itself. These javelins radiate intense bolts of radiant energy.

Eyes of the Eagle- These goggles are a staple to all rank 3 officers of the Low-Kirks and help give the assassins their relentless reputation. Currently in possession of Group 1 and equipped by Aspen.

Cape of Mountebank - This cape smells like brimstone and allows the Dent to cast Dimension Door once a day.

Mace of Terror - This bladed mace is shaped like a skull. The Dent has used this to terrify countless victims.
