Governor’s Gambit Session 2 Recap

GENERAL SUMMARY

Aspen, Hoppan, Jove, and T'Darrel noticed someone spying on them in the forest. T'Darrel confronted this spy and found himself face-to-face with former Ébed and famous monster hunter, Xavenas. The half elf paladin forced himself into the group by threatening to call Company guards with his scroll of sending.

Spider wolves attacked, zipping in and out of the material plane. The monsters managed to tie up Xavenas with a net, but the party killed and drove off the spiders. They spent the night recovering, while T'Darrel made "spider hats" for everyone. Aspen noticed a strange, strong yellow glow in the sky about 5-15 miles to the east. She also found a really cute cat and named her Cindy Clawford. She introduced CC to the party. Some liked her. Some felt suspicious of her.

The party traveled east towards the hamlet of Gloomwood. The goal was to see how wanted the party was since alluding the guards on the road as well as find a safe place to rest. When they got near the hamlet they saw it was in flames. Aspen went out to scout it. She found no survivors and noticed a 9' hooded figure in a robe that was stalking her from the tree line. It disappeared from sight when she turned to look at it directly.

Apprehensive about confronting this threat alone, the party head back for the road. On their way there, they noticed that a tower had been attacked recently as it glowed with flames. Xavenas attempted to take the lead on lying their way through the guards. Unfortunately for him, his pushy and bully tactics didn't work well on the tower commander. The officer was higher ranked than Xavenas ever was. Hoppah saw things were going poorly and cast the charm spell. Aspen jumped in and convinced the officer that Xavenas was an addled, crazy veteran. They just happened to find Xavenas in the woods fighting for his life against spiders. They rescued him but lost their paperwork. The commanding officer believed everything. He supplied the party with some common healing potions, a greater healing potion, and a potion of fire giant strength. The party left the tower as quickly as possible and before the charm spell wore off the officer.

Aspen chose to survive a game of tarot with a hag. If she does, she will be offered a reputation of legendary renown. Jove chose to enter the Black Church. If he does, he will be offered a LOT of gold.
